BioBloc™

BioBloc provides the benefits of fixed-film treatment to any aerobic-based system, including lagoons, tanks, or activated sludge systems. Installed in over 35 facilities in the United States and the United Kingdom since 1999, BioBloc is recognized as a dependable method of removing ammonia with installation that requires no down time to operations. Units have been constructed in media retention cage volumes ranging from as little as 40 cubic feet to as large as 480 cubic feet, to accommodate the specific needs of the project.

Energy requirements

BioBloc has minimal energy requirements. Each BioBloc module requires just 15–20 SCFM of air for normal operation in nitrification mode. The system can be toggled on and off to allow both nitrification and denitrification within a single module.

BioBloc modular systems are configured to meet your plant’s nitrification as well as denitrification requirements. BioBloc’s integrated floating platform allows for operation in shallow lagoons as well as in lagoons with variable bottom conditions.

Fine and coarse bubble diffusers

Each BioBloc module is filled with high surface area growth media which supports healthy biofilms of optimal thickness to provide high rates of BOD and ammonia removal. The patented BioBloc has a separate coarse-bubble system that periodically scours the media bed and clears the chamber to encourage renewed growth.

Versatility

BioBlocs are designed to be deployed individually, in parallel or in series to remove pollutants. They diffuse a high level of oxygen into surrounding wastewater through the media bed. The units are custom built for each application and can be easily installed using a light-duty boom truck and floated into place.
